"That's all well and good but where is the money?" |
In the previous two articles, I have shown you some of the steps to take and some of the benefits of learning the language of the still burgeoning, wireless webpage.
A deck of WAP cards may seem to some of those (used to Photo Shop decorations and Flash animation) in the Adult business a crude way to sell memberships. True, the technology is young for this kind of. Keep in mind the first dramatic program on television, "The Queen's Messenger" (September 1928, USA), broadcast to a total of four television sets.
Millions of persons already use cell phones and PDAs to get information and entertainment on a daily basis. Surely, this mode of service will only continue to grow and improve. Even if initially, all you can offer your customers are dirty stories and jokes and newsletters, you will have already begun to gather the customer base of this medium when the technological advancements in it come along.
My advice is make the deck of cards known as a WAP site. Get it out there to the wireless market and promote your Internet sponsors and sites from within your deck.
Here are some helpful tools and places to go for the novice dealer in Adult WAP decks:
The Wireless Web Builder 2.0 from Coffee Cup Software
This is a semi-WYSIWYG, WAP card editor. It can be downloaded from CNET or ZDNET. It has some fairly decent online help files and a simple user-interface. Wireless Web Builder comes bundled with the Wireless Image Maker that allows you to convert existing images into WBMP format. You might find more success using it's drawing tool to make clean, line drawn images since most of your JPEG or GIF files won't look very good in this tiny image class.
WML Editor 3.22 from Jan Winkler
WML Editor is text-based with a cool, internal browser. The image editor does what some of the other WML builder programs I've played with do. Instead of making a whole, new WBMP image from one of your existing GIFs or JPEGs, it uses code to downsize the image and make it viewable on small screens. This program is in English and Deutsch. Like the Coffee Cup program, this editor can be downloaded from CNET or ZDNET.
WAP Draw by HIT-Solutions
Nifty little drawing tool for WBMP images. It allows you to make your WBMP image any size up to 96 x 80, which is probably as big as you would want your picture to be. You can't covert existing images with WAP Draw. This program can also be found at CNET or ZDNET.
Wbmp Butterfly 1.0 made by Zdravko Dokuzovic
A bunch of users off the ZDNET site downloaded this image converter. I found it a bit hard to work with. I had to do a lot of pre-editing to my existing image before I could load and convert it to WBMP format with this program. Perhaps with a registered version, one is allowed more features. Download it from ZDNET or CNET.
3TL-M3Gate 0.6 from Numeric Algorithm Laboratories
This is a WAP emulator. Right clicking on the face of its pretty user window will give you a type-in box. You can type the URL of any WAP card on a server and see how it looks on your PC. For viewing WML cards and WBMP images stored on your hard-drive, I found it simplest to double-click on files through my Windows Explorer. They would instantly be loaded into M3Gate's window. The emulator can be downloaded from 3TL's home page. They have a partnership with the makers of M3Gate so the program's linked under the heading: 3TL WAP Emulator.
The 3TL website (http://www.3tl.com) has some nice tutorials and tools to aid your newly acquired coding skill.
Some other good places to learn more about WML, WBMP and WAP are the XML section at Webmonkey and In the Computing & Technology HTML/XML category at About.com.
You being the good student I know you are will immediately go download the tools and visit the tutorials and soon, you will have your very own WAP deck. Being so proud of yourself, you will want to show it off to the wireless word. You might wanna be brave and see if you can make a little money from it. You can do these things but from the lack of available venues, you might think the non-adult realm was keeping this a secret from us.
At the moment, the most used wireless network out there is the Avant Go Network. When Avant Go was a new venture looking for customers, they allowed a company named PalmStories to serve Adult content from Avant Go. The Network claims that while they no longer accept new porn clients on their service, they still have a working contract with PalmStories. Therefore if you go to the Avant Go directory, you will not easily find PalmStories. PalmStories has partnered with Palmotica. Palmotica uses FirePad technology to allow small, streaming video to cell phones and PDAs. As you can see, the software is evolving as I type this article.
PalmStories will let you upload stories to them, but you will not get paid. Palmotica promises a webmaster affiliate program soon. From this you would believe that the entire of Adult Wireless entertainment was in the hands of two paysites and a network.
Would I lead you down a primrose path just to leave you hanging without hope?
I have found that I can build a deck of WAP cards and serve them up to my personal ISP's webspace. When I test them on the Wapilizer mentioned in article one, or from the M3Gate browser, they load just fine. Mind you, that may be due to the programming by my ISP or that I have not officially viewed them on a wireless device. If not, somewhere in the tutorials stated above, there are. HTACCESS codes you can also upload to make your servers wireless compliant.
Better yet, I found a sweet little place that will let you host your WAP site on their server for free. Yes, there is a WAP free host that operates pretty much like any free host. The place is called TagTag. The only drawback is you have to use their WAP/WML editing program named: DotWAP 2.0. The drawback is minimal considering DotWAP is alarmingly easy program to use.
There are probably wireless hosts that will allow Adult content, but they were unattainable in my research for this series. If there aren't wireless hosts that are Adult friendly, there should be.
In the "That's all well and good but where is the money?" category we have Pocket-XXX. Their site claims a %50 share of each sign-up along with one recurring rebill per user. The also offer banners you can post on your website and a WML compatible slide show you can place on your WAP deck.
Of course you will want to promote your revolutionary XXX content to all that are enabled. For that, There are three that I found:
AWOOGA: You can submit your deck right from the home page under the "Erotic" category.
EROTIGO: A webmaster's link resides on the front page that leads directly to a site submission form.
MOBONE: At the top of the page is the "add URL" button where you would list your site in the Adult Category.
There is much ado about the downturn in PC and desktop sales. Have you noticed that though the price of a stationary computer has dropped greatly, the cost of a laptop has stayed virtually the same since their inception? Why? Mobility. PDA and wireless device sales are surging for the same reason.
Connectors/Interconnect Content and Trends (in a study titled: World PDA & Wireless Palmtop Market) says,
"The $270 billion PC market and its $7 billion connector content will undergo significant changes over the next five years. Types of product will proliferate and expand into new applications. Wireless technology will create hybrid voice/data products and expand wireless data communications greatly."
If I have done anything in these articles, I hope I've shown you the newness and potential of delving into Adult Wireless Porn. What you do with this information is all in the palm of your hand.
