V.O.D. Almost sounds like an acronym for a Valentine gift, delivered by messenger, doesn’t it? My baby gave me chocolates and he sent them VOD!
VOD stands for Video On Demand. Another term used to specify this type of content describes it better: PPV or Pay Per View.

"The older the web gets, the braver the surfers get. They're more willing than ever to buy 'à la carte' entertainment." |
This kind of content isn’t new but recently, it’s gotten hot in the adult Internet industry. Everyone and their dog are coming out with some form of VOD, either through an affiliate program or through a content provider. VOD is the not-so new way to push porn to the masses for money.
Here’s what happens when a surfer pays for VOD porn:
He/She browses through titles and chooses the one he/she wants. He/She pays to see that video once and that’s it. No further commitment. No recurring membership fee. VOD sites offer a pay-by-the-minute service. The customer pays for and sees only what they want and everybody is happy! Those same VOD sites sell access to one porn film for a multiple week period and that fee can be as little as five dollars.
Now that broadband has finally taken hold of the web majority, VOD/PPV is a viable and proven way to sell content. The older the web gets, the braver the surfers get. They’re more willing than ever to buy "à la carte" entertainment. Just ask the folks at Apple!
As mentioned already, the concept isn’t new. There have been PPV providers since I can remember. Mostly they’ve been upsellers that prefer you own a paysite in order to use their feeds. To upsell meant that you linked to the PPV and if your paysite member chose to view it, you got a commission. Sort of a big-dog version of an affiliate/sponsor relationship. The reason upsellers dealt mostly with paysite owners is that bandwidth used to be much more expensive than it is today. PPV providers wanted to make sure they didn’t waste transfer costs on freeloaders. The cool thing about paysite members is that they’ve proven they’ll buy smut.
Internet connections are faster and computers are faster. Hosting is cheaper and bandwidth is as well. Today’s porn surfer is savvier. Our visitors know all about recurring memberships and a lot of them don’t want to be tied down financially. They want their porn now. They don’t want it for the rest of a year. They want it when they’re horny. They want Video On Demand.
How can you make money from VOD?
You could do it the hard way. You could make a bunch of your own dirty films, encode them to digital, get a domain, a host, a designer, a biller and some support technicians. Then you’ll have to promote your PPV site while at the same time covering your business costs. If you work hard and stick to it, you might make a profit in a year or two.
If you want to do it the Cozy way, then you’ll probably want to sell somebody else’s VOD content for a percentage of the profits. There are plenty of adult sponsors and upsellers offering this exciting method to smutty profits. It doesn’t matter if you’re a small webmaster with a few free sites to fill or whether you’re a big-time paysite operator, PPV is a profitable choice.
Enhance your member’s area.
They’ve paid to join your site. If you gently nudge them to a PPV upsell, they might buy again. If you run a free site, there’s no pressure with VOD sponsor content. The files are hosted on somebody else’s server. All you have to do is post an affiliate link!
One last thought.
The average one-month paysite membership is about thirty-five bucks. A VOD will cost your surfer five bucks a download or less than ten cents a minute. At that lesser rate, your surfer is more likely to buy the VOD and will probably order more. You could easily make more money off that one surfer through PPV sales than you would through paysite membership sales.
Check out the VOD rage. Look for sponsors and content providers who offer a PPV service/affiliate program. You can browse through both VOD sponsors and PPV providers at Cozy Frog. Just go the main page, look at the green sidebar and find our Content and Sponsors Listings.
This year, get the best kind of Valentine by messenger. Get a VOD check in your mailbox!
