    Interview With Kenny @ WayPay!

C-Pimp: First and foremost I want to thank you for being patient with me and taking the time to do this interview for our Cozy readers. How's everything on your end?

Kenny: No problem, it's my pleasure. Everything here is good. We're done with version 1.0 of our service and looking forward to helping Webmasters maximize the performance of their billing solutions and make more money.

C-Pimp: Before we get to your service, can you give us a quick run down on how you first got involved in this industry and for how long? What role do you play with WayPay?

Kenny: The team at HSI has been developing full-scale enterprise e-commerce systems since 1996. Everybody at HSI previously worked for NetLeader, Inc. – Internet Billing Company's development partner from 1996 to 2000. We wrote the systems from the ground up (back-end processor interfaces to front-line collection pages) and leased the software to Internet Billing Company for a portion of the profits. In July of 2000, Internet Billing Company purchased NetLeader and the rights to the software and the company was reformed as a subsidiary: iBill Technologies, Ltd. After the buyout, several of the NetLeader partners left iBill to pursue a new venture. HSI was formed in August of 2000 to provide custom software solutions, primarily in e-commerce.

We developed WayPay as a logical extension to the third-party biller. We think it's a no-brainer for the adult Webmaster. It's a service that keeps an eye on the TPBs (we monitor for uptime, availability, approval/decline ratios) and makes sure our client's transactions get through to one that's up and operational. We found ways to fix the problems Webmasters were having and added a few value added services that have turned out making our clients an average of 9% (sometimes up to 13%) more money every month.

C-Pimp: I've had the pleasure of visiting your site on several occasions and frankly I'm quite impressed with your service and hope to possibly use it for myself in the near future. Can you give us the scoop on WayPay for all our readers that aren't familiar with what you have to offer?

Kenny: In a nutshell, we're a billing consolidator. Instead of having buttons for two or three different billing options, Webmasters configure their price points in our system and point their join buttons at us. Webmasters can select one of three different routing options: weighted, where we send traffic to each biller based on a percentage; round-robin, where we route transactions to each available biller; and menu-based where we offer the consumer a menu of available billers and let them choose.

We constantly monitor each biller for uptime; if one goes down we automatically redirect our client's subscribers to a backup biller with no downtime or late night button switching. We report biller availability on our site for everyone to see, but our clients get extended downtime reports with precise downtime logs for each of their billers.

Beyond that, our consolidated reporting gives Webmasters the big picture. We show where transactions are going, where they're most often approved and declined, and how many transactions result in fallout. Our cross-biller affiliate tracking and password management insures affiliates get paid and consumers get access regardless of where the transaction is processed.

We're most excited about our Transaction Recovery feature. We allow your subscribers, if declined, to continue their transaction at your next available biller. We make it simple by completing the form for them using information from their first attempt. All the consumer needs to do is enter their credit card information again to verify they want the transaction retried. Clients using Transaction Recovery have realized up to 13% more revenue each month. It's important to note that a signup typically stays active for an average of 45 days, so an additional sale today converts into a recurring transaction next month. We give the Webmaster and the consumer every opportunity to complete the sale!

C-Pimp: I haven't personally come across a service like the one you offer. Bring me up to speed, are you guys the first to offer such a service to adult Webmasters?

Kenny: Yes, I believe we are the first to launch. I've seen another company claiming that they were going to do something similar, but I'm not sure they've gone into production yet. We welcome the competition; we believe we have a fantastic service at a great price and can help any Webmaster earn some extra cash!

C-Pimp: How long did it take to create WayPay and what concerns did your team have to face during its development phase? What assurances do you provide in terms or reliability and accuracy?

Kenny: We've been developing WayPay for about eight months now. Our biggest problem, since the service and technology are new, is misunderstanding. Many Webmasters aren't certain about what it is we do or how we can help them. We're excited about the opportunity to clear things up with this interview!

In the course of creating solutions we've also realized that feature sets at each third-party biller can be vastly different. Some billers worked right out of the box, some required some creative engineering, and others co-developed solutions with us to provide complete integration for our clients.

Everybody's concerned about single points of failure and availability. So are we – our service and reputation rely on it. To assure reliability, WayPay is co-located on an ultra-redundant network by way of multiple SONET rings connected to the Internet. 7500 series Cisco routing architecture and cutting-edge protocols provide fully meshed high bandwidth connections to multiple redundant high capacity fiber optic net connections.

The circuits provide OC-12 and OC-3 grade connectivity to multiple backbone providers. The facility has plenty of emergency power and cooling resources and our data is kept safe by a multi-million dollar IBM robotic tape backup system. Finally, unlike third-party billers, WayPay is self-contained. We have no back-end processors to go down. If Florida exists and at least one of your billers is operational, your transactions will get through.

C-Pimp: If I'm not mistaken, you even handle setting up accounts with your leading billers for your Webmasters to save some time on their end. This is great for Webmasters that come to WayPay without any billing accounts. Which billers are included in your leading billers list and are all other billers in general compatible with your system?

Kenny: Most of the Webmasters we work with already had billers or knew which billers they wanted to utilize. For Webmasters who don't yet have a billing solution, we're happy to assist in any way possible. We work closely with each biller and can help expedite the setup process in most cases.

We started out supporting what we believed were the most popular billing companies, CCBill, Epoch Systems, and Internet Billing Company. Due to customer demand, we recently added ProBilling to our lineup and are currently integrating ACPay. We're a small, focused service, and we react to customer demand very quickly. If Biller XYZ becomes the next hot solution, we'll add support for them as quickly as possible.

Billers are considered for recommendation solely by their performance (in fact, it's automatically done by code). WayPay is an entirely independent company and has no affiliation with any of the third-party billers.

C-Pimp: What customization features do you offer your Webmasters and how simple is it to administrate a WayPay account? What kind of settings do your Webmasters have at their disposal?

Kenny: WayPay was developed to handle the administration of a billing solution. We don't think there's a lot of reason to change things once you're setup – that's all handled by the active monitoring system. We've actually seen the exact opposite: Webmasters love to switch things around when it's as easy as it is with WayPay.

Using our Account Management Tools (AMT) a Webmaster can control which billers they support, which are active, and how their subscribers get to each biller. If a Webmaster gets a better rate at one biller, he can move that biller to primary with a single click. He can even send check transactions to one biller while rotating credit card transactions among all available billers.

C-Pimp: Let's get down to the green. How much does a Webmaster expect to shell out to use your service and what payment options do they have to cover the cost of the service that you provide?

Kenny: A small site (less than 1,000 transactions per month) is only going to pay $70 per month to use our service. Larger sites will pay more depending on the transaction volume they are pushing. As of this interview, our Transaction Recovery feature has generated more revenue for the Webmaster than he'd pay us in monthly fees. It's likely most Webmasters won't pay a dime out-of-pocket to use our service. They setup, switch buttons, sit back and let WayPay start generating additional revenue.

WayPay charges the Webmaster's credit card a monthly fee based on the number of transactions processed during the prior month. We also plan to offer direct debit from checking accounts in the near future. There are no setup fees, no hidden fees, and we offer a money back guarantee if you're not satisfied with our service in the first three months. Getting started is veritably risk-free!

C-Pimp: Can WayPay work for affiliate Webmasters? How do you guys handle affiliate programs to ensure that Webmasters are paid accordingly from the list of online processors?

Kenny: WayPay works with affiliates much the same way that we work with Webmasters. Affiliates sign up with us and get a WayPay Affiliate ID. They enter their affiliate codes in AMT and then they change their banners to link to their affiliated site through WayPay. No matter which biller a subscriber ends up using, WayPay passes along the correct affiliate code for that biller. This way the affiliate is sure to get paid no matter which biller is used.

There are plans to provide an automated affiliate signup as well. If your affiliate doesn't yet have an affiliate ID at Internet Billing Company, signing up for a WayPay Affiliate ID will get him one for every biller you support.

C-Pimp: Say I come on board today and get signed up, how long before my WayPay account is ready to go? What kind of support do you offer your Webmasters looking for help in getting everything setup on their site and running smooth?

Kenny: If you signup online, your account will be active immediately. If, however, you called today and already had your site running with any of our supported billers, we would have you up and running today. We'll assist in any way possible to get the Webmaster up and running immediately. In fact, from time to time, we find that small tweaks or features are necessary to get a client up and running. Because we're an evolving service, we're very open to customizing the service for individual clients.

C-Pimp: How well has your service been working for Webmasters so far? I noticed that you have transaction recovery stats up on your main page along with related information. Can you tell us a bit more about that?

Kenny: Our Transaction Recovery feature has worked out better than we expected. We have seen as high as 13% recovery, but typically see a 9% average across all of our sites. Based on our current monthly recovery average and a few numbers supplied by the Webmaster, we can calculate an estimate of the profit he might typically see by using our recovery features. C-Pimp: What are your plans for the future? Are there any new features in the works from WayPay that you would like to share with us? What is your company's ultimate goal?

Kenny: Our goal is to give Webmasters tools to squeeze every penny out of their third-party billers. They're spending 10, 12, even 15% of their monthly revenue for the service. WayPay makes sure they get their money's worth!

The next big feature we're going to release will help Webmasters make the move from third-party billing to their own merchant accounts. There's no reason to pay 15% of your monthly revenue to a third-party when merchant accounts (adult merchant accounts) are available at 3-6% discount rates. We'll even make it possible to use the merchant account in conjunction with the third-party billers, complete with recurring billing, affiliate tracking and payout, and password management.

C-Pimp: And it's a rap! I want to thank you for taking the time to do this interview and for your great insight. You've definitely got a great thing going, I wish you guys the best and look forward to seeing it evolve and succeed. Any closing thoughts or comments before we officially rap this up?

Kenny: Thank you for the opportunity to promote our service. We believe so sincerely that our service will increase revenue and simplify the third-party billing nightmare that we'll guarantee it for a full three months. If at any time during those three months, a Webmaster isn't happy with the service, we'll refund his charges no questions asked. Given the chance, we're certain the service will sell itself.
