Fast forward to today; They've built an extremely solid online presence, have a truly unique and innovative approach and are most definitely one of the top billing companies available to webmasters today! Need I say more? My good buddy Matt has gone all out to give you, dear constant reader, the scoop on PSWBilling...
C-Pimp: Well, it's that time, thanks for hopping over to the Frog to do this exclusive interview! How the hell is everything?
Matt:
Hey! We're doing great man. With all the freezing weather in the last few months snow, grey skies how could we be anything but keyed up day to day? (laughs) We've got tons of cool stuff on the way and the whole team can't wait to let the world see what's next. INTERNEXT Vegas last January was a great success and I bet most would agree there's nothing like a party-marathon to break up the greatest stress on earth!
C-Pimp: I think I can agree with that! :-)
Matt: But seriously, while many companies are feeling the heavy hits from Visa, in the last few months we've only had to some minor sparing with International banks. The whole situation actually pushed clients to speak up, giving us valuable insight on our services, support and solutions. And contrary to the impressive tales of trial and torment, PSW is running wide open and isn't breaking stride now or ever!
C-Pimp: Yeah, PSW Billing Solutions is definitely on the come up and coming on strong if you ask me! Can you give our readers the scoop on what your company has to offer?

Matt: We simply want to provide the most honest, genuine and respectable billing services to other reputable and hardworking people in our industry! We strive to increase innovation in the e-commerce arena setting new standards for what merchants expect from billing agents. Honestly, we're growing a lot faster than we anticipated but the flood of positive reviews keeps us lighthearted and lively! Full speed ahead, no doubt!
C-Pimp: Before we go any further, I have to touch on this; this past few months have been real kickers in the billing world! What are your thoughts on the entire debacle?
Matt: Oh yes, Visa
everywhere we wish they weren't. (laughs) Don't get me wrong; we enjoy working with them honestly who wouldn't? They account for over 70% of all online transactions, but with numbers like those they've got leverage to do whatever they want. The billing companies had to band together to protect a way of life, really.
C-Pimp: What's the situation like at this very moment?
Matt: The dust has definitely settled and we've been pleasantly surprised to find that the effects seem far from detrimental. Yes, the fees suck. Yes, we now have more work to do. But there's no question there's been an increase in quality clients, a lot less complaints and better overall productivity. Many fear this may be just the beginning, but we're confident that new payment methods and shear demand for discreet sources of satisfaction will keep this industry going for years to come!
C-Pimp: With that outta the way, can you please tell us a bit about yourself, how you first got involved in the online business? How long you've been kickin' it online?
Matt: About me? Lets see, born in Indiana, grew up in Virginia, and well, my childhood isn't too fascinating. (laughs) I've been told I'm a rather upbeat guy - genuine, charismatic. I really enjoy meeting people and this industry is filled with tons of talented and fascinating personalities. I like warm weather, something that I haven't gotten much of lately here on the East coast, but the summer is close at hand!
My online career started in 1992. I had always been interested in design and started freelancing designing websites for various local businesses. I still have my first webpage printed our somewhere: three buttons and one sentence, very impressive! (laughs)
The whole adult industry thing didn't hit me until college. A friend of mine ran one of the first celebrity AVS galleries and had me redesign the entire site. I finished up design school, graduated, and was chosen to teach a new web design course the following semester. That was a lot of fun but my need for constant change has kept me extremely active in the adult industry. Where else do you get to work with bleeding-edge technologies and brilliant down-to-earth people? Everyone involved has kept me on my toes and my always expanding group of "Super-Friends" are becoming some of the closest people in my life!
C-Pimp: How did you get involved with PSW Billing Solutions and what role do you play in the scope of the company?
Matt: PSW is just a talented group of individuals that came together at the right time. We ran some extremely successful paysites since the early nineties and had jumped from billing agent to billing agent, gotten tired of the games, and finally develop our own billing interface. Friends started using the system and it was obvious we needed central management. Thus, we took the software to the next level and branded it while maintaining our founding principle that clients are friends.
Throughout the process, my primary duties include brand strategy, advertising, marketing, user interface design, public relations, and sales love those last two because I get away from the computer! (laughs)
C-Pimp: Now I know for a fact that you actually never sleep! (laughs) Being a designer myself, I have to say that PSW's site is clean, comprehensive and easy on the eye! I know you are a designer as well, did you design the entire site? How long did it take to put together?
Matt: Thanks man, you know how much I love your work in the Cozy Network and, coming from you, that compliment really means a lot! The current website went through about thirty variations over several months, and yes, it's one of the most comprehensive sites I've designed to date. When you have a passion for design, the truth is in the details. Many potential clients develop an overall opinion of a company a credibility rating, if you will simply from what they see online. I simply hope that my designs live up to the people that make companies like PSW great!
C-Pimp: Have you designed for others in the past or provide such services at the moment?
Matt: Yes and yes. I've run a freelance design and consulting firm since my first years in college and take on projects when time permits. You probably agree that creating personality through design is fascinating. Unfortunately, to create great designs you've really got to put you're heart into the work understand the client and their audience. So I often drop social time, and sometimes my sanity, to maintain my full passionate attention 'til the wee hours of the morning. :-)
C-Pimp: We've been dealing with you guys for over a year, and the one thing that you guys really have going for ya is personality. Always courteous, always helpful, how important is solid communication and potent support for PSW Billing as a whole?
Matt: Honestly, it's only an extremely pleasant side effect. We made a point from the very beginning to hire only talented and personable individuals. Thus, the qualities you mentioned simply come directly from our people, in a very real sense! Put another way, clients are as much a part of our team as each person working at PSW. Thus, there's a greater interchange of information, ideas and respect for everyone involved!
C-Pimp: It shouldn't be any other way if you ask me! Do your webmasters have the option to use your services for their affiliate programs? And on the flipside, do you offer residuals to peeps that refer webmasters to your company?
Matt: We recently released our Instant Reseller System. Better than turnkey we say, because if your account is set up, it's ready to go! Hell, it's like waking up to the smell of fresh-brewed coffee because we've got it sitting there waiting for you! We often develop custom solutions when clients need it and our postback is XML-driven which lets them integrate our solutions into whatever system they have setup!
As far as referrals go, our Partner And Profit system will be available shortly. Partners will earn a cut of the revenue for the life of the account rather than three months or something like that. C-Pimp: There are quite a few third-party billing companies that cater to the online adult industry, amongst them, there are a handful of major players. Now, if you ask me, you guys are way up there. What do you feel sets you guys apart from the rest?
Matt: From what our clients tell us, our chosen approach is drastically different than other companies because we focus on client relationships rather than the money they generate. It seems a lot of companies out there have commission-syndrome and you can hear it each time you talk to their sales people. At PSW, from day one, you're talking to client services.
C-Pimp: You mean you have no sales people?
Matt: Not in the traditional sense, no. Often, the person you speak with on your first call is who you end up working with for the life of your account. This seems to astonish most people because they expect to be transferred to some other department. Actually, for a while we didn't have a sales email address but client services received so many apologetic calls and messages that we finally setup an email alias! (laughs)
All this really comes down to something we discovered when we first got into business: if you're going to have lasting relationships they have to be based on substance. And that goes tenfold for billing you've got to be able to trust the people that are handling your money.
C-Pimp: Do you guys offer any additional services like a fully integrated Shopping Cart system, phone billing or merchant services or do you focus solely on third party credit card processing?
Matt: We have a number of additional services including ACH check processing, shopping cart systems, bill-per-view and more! Our Dynamic Check System has been the biggest hit lately - it's an ACH solution that provides real-time feedback for consumers. Our unique approach has been shown to increase consumer confidence, sales, and revenue three things our clients are always happy to see more of. C-Pimp: Don't hold back on this one! On a personal note, what do you personally love most about this business and what do you particularly despise with a passion?
Matt: I love the fast pace. There's nothing like sex to drive technology video standards, broadband Internet access. This is an industry driven by innovation and every day we find new ways to reach consumers, new combinations of logic and emotion, new methods for billing, new means for delivery. The list goes on and on and it's really damn exciting!
Far beyond this, however, is my admiration for the first-class individuals those who are in this business for more than the quick buck. They come through on promises, share resources and information, and do more than their share to keep everything clean and honest. They truly make this industry a community and give all of us reasons to push forward.
What do I despise? Really it's just the people who use less than respectable business practices. They're easy enough to avoid but it's frustrating to see them bare down on people. But I think the community gets wiser everyday and hopefully we'll see less and less of them as time goes by!
C-Pimp: How often do you personally visit adult webmaster resource sites? Do you even have time to visit resources with your busy schedule?
Matt: When I can, I visit them daily. It's important not only to keep up with the latest regulations but also to see what concerns webmasters at the given moment. Top resources like Cozy Frog, the YNOT Network and AVN Online keep professionals informed of the latest developments and really let us feel the pulse of the industry.
C-Pimp: Can you give our hungry newbies some solid advice that might help them in their mission for online success?
Matt: Educate yourself. Read everything at Cozy Academy! I'm serious! No matter what segment you're in, that site has valuable information for understanding what drives webmasters and surfers alike.
Pick your suppliers with care. Whether you're looking for a content provider, sponsor program or billing company, ask around, read the fine print, contact the company and get an impression of who you'll be working with. There are people standing behind the services and you have every right to see who they are before you get started.
C-Pimp: What's on your personal agenda for this year! What does Matt have planned for 2003? All work no play? All Play?
Matt: All Play? (laughs) That would be great! I seem to be addicted to work so chances are 2003 won't be much lighter than this year. I already know I'll be traveling more visiting all the great people I've met. So let's say 90% work, 5% play and another 5% for surprises!
C-Pimp: And 0% sleep! Why am I not surprised? :-) Well, we're about to close shop on this one!
