** Continued From: Virtual or Dedicated? Part #1
In this two-part article, Cozy gives you the skinny on the two most commonly used types of PAID hosting, VIRTUAL and DEDICATED.
|
"When you consider hosting options, it all comes down to what you have and what you expect to have." |
In part one, you learned that VIRTUAL hosting is usually the best alternative for the novice site operator. VIRTUAL hosting is where you literally share the same web server with several other accounts. While VIRTUAL hosting is an affordable and logical choice for the small adult site, it isn’t the best option for a large, high traffic porn page.
When it comes to web hosting, think of server space like you would your home. If you live in a place where you share the parking, the pool and the laundry room, then you probably live in an apartment complex. VIRTUAL hosting is kind of like an apartment complex for web sites. All the websites share the same web server. If the server is up and humming then all the renters are happy. If the VIRTUAL server goes down, all the renters are pissed off. VIRTUAL hosting is great when you’re just starting out and don’t have much to spend or lose. However like most apartment dwellers- you come to a point where you want a home of your own, a box of your own. You want your own personal web server.
A DEDICATED server account is sort of like a house as opposed to an apartment. With a house, you still have to pay for everything but you don’t have to share anything. With a DEDICATED hosting account you get to put your adult site on its very own web server. You don’t have to worry about disturbing the folks in the unit below you. You don’t have to suffer if the pipes burst in the unit above you.
With DEDICATED hosting, you get to store your files and transfer your data from a unit where you are the only resident.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with VIRTUAL hosting just as there is nothing wrong with renting a unit in an apartment complex. Thousands of adult webmasters run their sites on VIRTUAL hosting. You can upgrade VIRTUAL accounts. You can pay for more storage and more transfer. The point is eventually, hopefully, you want your site to be very busy. You might even want your adult site to be huge.
When the hard work pays off and you get those zillions of surfers, you don’t want your site to crash under the weight of your legendary renown.
When you pay for a DEDICATED hosting account, you get more storage, more transfer. You get the whole machine. You also get more personalized care from your provider because you’ll be paying more.
You’ll get to open your adult site up to a bigger audience and you’ll be able to store more files, more images and more video. Your only limit is the capacity of your particular web server. If it gets too small, you can always rent a bigger one.
When you shop for web hosting, you want to spend money according to your needs. If you have a small little site then it would be silly to pay for DEDICATED hosting. You simply don’t need that much server. If you’ve got a mega paysite with gigs of content and a potential audience of millions, then you want your own box and probably a few more. When you consider hosting options, it all comes down to what you have and what you expect to have.
If you’re new and struggling for an audience, you certainly don’t need a hosting bill that’s bigger than your daily profits. If you’re an up and comer and you’ve been exceeding transfer and storage limits, then maybe it’s time to upgrade to DEDICATED hosting.
Whichever hosting you choose, you’re lucky to be an adult webmaster. Adult hosting providers offer the best rates for service in the whole Internet. Those poor suckers in the mainstream are getting robbed when it comes to storage space and bandwidth charges. We suggest you look through our Cozy Frog Resource Listings in the Hosting section when it’s time to pay for web server space.
In our Guide you’ll find companies that want your dirty, smutty business and are more than happy to answer any of your questions as well as walk you through technical difficulties.
Sure. It would be nice if we could all afford our own web servers and their accouterment. Some of us can and some of us also buy the servers but pay others to house them. That’s called CO-LOCATION. But that’s for another article!
