Accommodate The World

    You have to remember that screen resolutions vary greatly between surfers on the world wide web. The best way to ensure that your site is viewed properly is to test your web pages in a different resolution sizes before publishing them for the world to see. Even today, there are many people that surf the web with a screen setting of 800 X 600.

Webite Navigation

    A lost traveler on your website will need direction to enjoy what you have to offer. Ensuring that your website is easy to navigate is one of the most fundamentals factors in giving your visitors an enjoyable experience. Take the time to implement proper menus, site maps and search tools if necesssary to guide your visitor with ease.

Watch Your File Sizes

    There is still a considerable amount of Internet users roaming the information highway on modem. That being said, keep your file sizes small and efficient at all times. A site with graphics that take too long to load is a site that will lose quite a few impatient visitors. Your main page should always load in under 30 seconds - regardless of the connection speed.

Control Your Margins

    Add the following attributes to your <Body> tag to control your top and/or left on-screen margins. Setting these at "0" will remove any space between your website and the top or left edges of the browser.

    <BODY TopMargin="0" LeftMargin="0" MarginHeight="0" MarginWidth="0">

Ease Off The Animations!

    Animated GIFs can be a fun addition to any website and can, at times, help spice up your web page. Going overboard with animated icons and GIF files is another thing! It can interfere with what you have to offer and annoy the hell out of your visitors. It's totally fine to add some animated images to your pages or exploit an animation that could make a great impression - the key is moderation.

Using ALT Tags

    Never forget to us ALT tags with all of your images. They can be very beneficial to you, your visitor and the success of your website. We have a great article right here on Cozy that goes in depth on the subject called: "ALT! Who Goes There?". Here is what you need to add to your image (IMG) tags.

    <IMG SRC="Your_Image" WIDTH="50" HEIGHT="50" ALT="Contact Us">

Choose Your Colors Wisely

    You should always pick out a color scheme for your website before you actually start designing. A nice palette consisting of 3 or 4 good colors is more than sufficient to create an eye-catching website. Be sure to use a background color that contrasts your text perfectly. I'm sure you'll agree that there is nothing worse than text that requires effort to read! Learn more about colors with the help of our Cozy two-part exclusive: Clue in on Color!

Simple Is Better

    Keep your web pages simple and to the point. Carefully divide your website into various areas specific to each topic. You don't have to put everything on the main page because your surfer doesn't always need to see everything all at one. Keep your pages quick and slick because you only have one shot at something so important - Making a good First Impression.

Straight To The Source

    Ever come across something really cool on another website and wonder how it was done from a design point of view? This little trick is truly timeless and requires no skill other than how to read HTML. You can view the creator's HTML code on any website by checking the source code. All you have to do is click on "VIEW" at the top of your browser and select "SOURCE". This is a great way to learn some new design moves and expand your design potential. You should NEVER directly or indirectly copy someone else's work or steal another website's design - Copyright theft is a very serious offence.

Limit Your Sponsers

    There is nothing worse than a website cluttered with sponsor ads. I don't know about you, but there is something about landing on a new website for the first time and being served with an online circus - bright images, animations and all. Saturated web pages will only scare your visitors away. Take the time to strategically scatter your advertising for maximum exposure and profitibility. A couple of high-converting ads can do a lot more at times than thirty ads on one page.
