I’ve had an odd history when it comes to travel. When we were growing up, our Dad drove us all over the USA and into Mexico. When I was in my early twenties, I toured with a theater company that performed in four States. On my own, I’ve done very little map hopping. I’ve never lived outside of Texas and gave up wanting to years ago. The last time I got away (other than a family funeral) was six years ago when I won a trip to see the Gin Blossoms in Portland, Oregon. Needless to say, when I leave this Sunday to go to Vegas for Internext, I will be ready for a vacation.

On those numerous family driving trips of my youth, Las Vegas, Nevada was an oft-visited destination. We used to stay at the Thunderbird. I remember it had cool rock on the facade and a swimming pool with a high-dive. I remember thinking the rotating shoe from the Silver Slipper was the prettiest thing I ever saw. I remember how amazed I was as I walked with my family through downtown Vegas at night. The lights of all the casinos and shops actually were so bright it seemed like daytime. I recall in the seventies when Dad switched us to the Circus Circus hotel because the old Thunderbird was getting too scummy. I’ll treasure forever when just I and my father saw Miss Peggy Lee. And how we snuck in a bar afterwards just in time to catch BB King jamming to a small crowd. I will be an adult in Vegas for the first time in my life. I will be an adult webmaster attending an adult webmaster convention in the most adult city on earth.

Oh my God.

Of course my excitement will not interfere with the professionalism I shall display at this most auspicious occasion. I shall maintain a calm air of maturity during all private/public functions and on the showroom floor. Whether I am discussing the legal effects of the Cyber Security Enhancement Act with a programmer or viewing Brandy eating out Becky at a sponsored soiree, I will be composed and ladylike.

No open bar or black jack table will stop me from representing myself in a competent manner. I won’t allow temptations such as anonymous sex or legalized prostitution sway my mission to set an example of propriety for myself and Cozy. I will not emerge bleary-eyed and half-conscious in front of my peers. I don’t care if the hottest, hulkiest stud in the adult Internet industry begs me to make wild love to him. I am a rock. I am an island.

Internext veterans can laugh at me all they want but dammit, I’m eager as hell to go to my first show. It’s not often an old girl like me gets a chance to feel like a virgin and I feel like I’m popping a cherry. I have been emailing, chatting and conversing with faceless nicknames for four years. This Sunday through Wednesday I’m going to finally look in the eyes of people I am sincerely anxious to meet. I get to put on nice clothes and go to nice places. I get to find out for myself if these shows are the Babylonian orgies they’re portrayed as on the message boards.

I’ll get to meet Raven who is part of the Cozy team. She’s been doing such a swell job moderating our new message board Cozy Campus. I’ll get to pick her brain about her adult writing company Sin-Text and learn from her experience in this industry.

When I get to Vegas on Sunday, I’ll trot off to the GFY party to see all my favorite perverts. I’ll find out if Cyndalie is even prettier in person when I check out Adult Chamber’s Webmaster of the Year Awards on Tuesday at the KLIXXX booth.

Then later on Tuesday, I’ll hit the afternoon chic PornCity Reception. Then hopefully, the Dazz Band will perform my favorite tune "Let it all Blow" at the Xbiz GigaMix party on Wednesday January 8. Throughout the days, I’ll catch some of the seminars on issues and trends affecting our business. YNOT Bob, Joan Irvine from ASACP and a whole lot of lawyers are giving speeches this time. I’ll snag all the free shit I can at the Expo Center and if I find any time, I might even gamble. I will party like a newbie and I will be proud.

It took a long time to get to where I am today. I took years of persistence and trial and error to find where I belong. Now I’m in a field where I can work for a guy in another country and never leave my home. Now I have a job I love and make an income I’m proud of. Now I’m free enough to get on a plane and fly. Vegas Baby. Here I come!
