F.U.B.A.R. is an acronym for Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition. FU.B.A.R. is also a name adult webmasters have come to depend on to show them who’s who and what’s what. Question: How can a site with such a wacky domain name be so successful? Answer: Pics, pics, pics!
The first time I went to an adult webmaster convention, I had no trouble identifying the faces of the people I had come to know through message boards and IM chats. The reason? Because I had already seen
their faces on FubarWebmasters.com. Nametags are great but nothing can take the place of photos and F.U.B.A.R. Webmaster Adventures is the king of photos.
Back in 1999 an AVS webmaster by the name of Julius Kedvessy (JFK) began to take his camera to adult webmaster events. He took pictures so
he could keep the memory of good times alive. In 2002, he put his archive of photos online at FubarWebmasters.com. According to JFK:
“It occurred to me that the pics might be of interest to people who didn’t make it to the shows for one reason or another.”
He was right. Webmasters were thrilled to see images of the parties, the babes, the craziness and players. JFK shows us our world and our people. Better yet, the attendees of these events loved seeing their
pics on F.U.B.A.R. Other webmasters take photos but nobody does it quite like JFK.
The magic of F.U.B.A.R. isn’t in the design of the website. JFK admits the page is ugly. Just the same, don’t expect any re-design of FubarWebmasters.com. When something works you don’t change it. F.U.B.A.R. works because JFK hits every show and every party religiously. As Steve Lightspeed (LightspeedCash.com) puts it:
“I’ve been amazed to see pictures from multiple parties, often miles apart, during the SAME night. JFK frequently sacrifices his own fun to more thoroughly document everyone else’s.” Steve goes on to say: “Personally, it just doesn’t FEEL like a real convention until we see JFK and his camera.”
Adult Internet mentor, Princess (AdultBouncer.com) has this to say:
“F.U.B.A.R. Webmasters represents the industry as whole. The pictorials that are displayed on the F.U.B.A.R. site show the serious side of things as well as the fun that we have when we get together to network.”
Even more praise comes from Brad Mitchell (MojoHost.com):
“In my opinion FUBAR Webmasters is the pulse of the industry. They are hard-working, ever present, impartial and represent the entire industry very well. JFK is as genuine a person as they come and I am thankful for his help over the years as he has given significant exposure to MojoHost."
Another reason webmasters love F.U.B.A.R. is because JFK is respectful of their privacy. If you don’t want him to take your picture, he won’t. Video editing master RedShoe (PornEditor.com) humorously explains:
“F.U.B.A.R. means run and hide. That guy likes to take pics and I hate
having my picture taken. F.U.B.A.R. and I are like opposites. We are
yin and yang. I avoid him, and he avoids me.”
You might wonder how is JFK able to photograph all those shows and parties? Does he have super powers? Does he employ a team of snap-crazy shutterbugs? The truth is JFK does the lion’s share of the work but he does have help. Renaissance man Baddog (
http://gotwebhost.com) is JFK’s friend and trusty photo geek. If JFK didn’t take the F.U.B.A.R. pic then Baddog did. Baddog tells me:
“(In) mid 2003, he saw me posting a lot of pics on (a message board) and there was an event coming up in LA (the Lightspeed Road Show) he couldn't make. He asked if I could cover it. I have a great time taking pics for them and it has opened a lot of doors for me. Best side action I have in this industry.”
When looking at the photos on a F.U.B.A.R. gallery, you’ll notice each image features a sponsor banner. However, JFK isn’t a mere affiliate. Major online porn companies pay to have their sites advertised on
F.U.B.A.R. They know that the adult webmaster life is a powerful marketing tool. JFK’s advertisers realize that F.U.B.A.R. pics show their human side their fun side. They also understand that thousands
of webmasters eagerly await the next set of F.U.B.A.R. photos. Each time an adult webmaster opens a F.U.B.A.R. gallery, he/she sees smiles, good times and a sponsor button on every image.
One would think that JFK would be satisfied with his good thing and leave it at that. Au Contraire. Last year he published the F.U.B.A.R. calendar a real hit because of the photos and the mixed-up layout. He also has begun to publish a quarterly magazine called the F.U.B.A.R. Times.
Adult webmasters look at porn all day. When we find time to play on the Internet, we enjoy looking at pictures of our peers, laughing it up and cutting loose. We like sharing our experiences and nothing illustrates our world better than pics F.U.B.A.R. pics. We’re lucky to have guys like JFK a man that enjoys his work and accepts the privacy some of us desire. Webmasters love F.U.B.A.R. Sponsors love F.U.B.A.R. Everybody loves F.U.B.A.R.!
