We don't get Oscar statues or Pulitzer prizes but people in our profession do receive awards. Your local chamber of commerce might not think your hard work is worthy of recognition but your peers feel differently. Adult Webmaster Awards are out there for the earning.

"The best point of Adult Webmaster Award tributes is that they build community, advance respectability and spread a little bit of glamour around an often-times unglamorous vocation." |
The public Internet - the World Wide Web - is close to twenty years old. The adult Internet is just as old and porn is as old as civilization. It took a bit of time for our specialized profession to get on the awards bandwagon but we're on it now. Now there are entities that bestow honors, not just on pornographers but on Internet pornographers. Some have been citing smutty professionals for years, even decades. Some are hosting relatively new ceremonies. Some prizes are yet to be imagined.
The best point of Adult Webmaster Award tributes is that they build community, advance respectability and spread a little bit of glamour around an often-times unglamorous vocation. Adult webmasters work insane hours, in front of glaring monitors and usually, all alone. It's nice to get a little pat on the back from one's peers.
Here's a roundup of some Adult Webmaster Awards:
Okay. The AVN Awards aren't really for adult webmasters. This is a ceremony celebrating the video porn industry, not the Internet porn industry. However, the AVN awards are the model (the justification, if you will) for bestowing awards to the adult Internet in the first place. We saw AVN do it, so we did it too. Luckily for us, AVN hosts their award ceremony at the same time as our trade convention, INTERNEXT.
It's already been four years but it seems like only yesterday when Cozy Frog won the very first XBIZ Award for Adult Webmaster Resource site. Now the XBIZ Awards are practically synonymous with distinction in our field. XBIZ held their fourth awards event last November 2005 in Hollywood, CA, during Webmaster Access. Keep checking XBIZ for upcoming ceremonies!
Only on their second year and already this is the little-award-show-that-could. Held during QWEBEC Expo in Montreal, Canada, this observance of excellence in web smut had a smashing success its first year. Let's hope the year two Best Adult Awards, tops their already stellar record.
The best party ever! For years now, industry legend D-Money has thrown this most beloved and notorious bash. The evening opens hard with a name performers such as Snoop Dogg, Ice-T and this year's star, the Mythical George Clinton. The love just grows when D-Money hands out beautifully carved penis-shaped statues they call a Woody. The Player's Ball is a tradition.
If you're in the vicinity when one of these incredible events takes place, get tickets. If you want to nominate an adult site or service, most of the award committees open nominee submissions to members of the industry. Some nominees are chosen by a panel of judges, but these award benefactors often allow some kind of public vote. If you have a favorite adult webmaster anything, nominating or voting for them would be a great way to show your appreciation.
The longer adult webmasters are on the web, the more we will be able to celebrate the standouts in our trade. There will always be non-adult types, who would rather see us in jail than out in the populace, making acceptance speeches. The statues and certificates we receive will probably never be photographed for People Magazine. Hell, some of us will not tell our own families about our glorious accolades.
Just the same, adult webmasters will know. Adult Internet professionals will remember. Present and future clients will see our commendations and respect us for them. We'll announce it in press releases and in industry newsletters. We'll broadcast the news on resource sites and spread the love on the message boards. So what if a bunch of prudes want to pretend we don't exist? Adult Webmaster Awards are Real. They happen. They will continue to happen. We don't need outsiders to give us praise. We make our own!
