The Bride of Niches You Need to Know!
    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | MAR.18.2003

Niches. Niches. Niches. When the new adult webmaster looks upon the market of Internet porn, the largesse of paysites and the preponderance of teen galleries overwhelm them. They get disheartened because they believe all the good ideas are taken. Why build another BDSM site or risk heartburn through exposure to bukkake shots when a hundred other webmasters are doing the same thing already? You scream to the porn gods: "Are there any niches or kinks that haven't been tapped out by now? Where oh where is that niche that people are looking for? Where is that subset of sexual specialists hanging out and how can I reach them? Tell Me, Titmowse! Where is the new niche I need to know?"

"Feminist Porn is sex positive porn. Feminist Porn is that in which the woman is an informed participant and a willing player."
All will be well children. I've returned with a doozey of a niche. In fact, this one is so good; the whole article will be devoted only to this one genre of niche. Are ya ready? You sitting down? Here it comes. The newest niche the adult webmaster needs to know is: Feminist Porn.

You think I'm kidding right? Feminist Porn sounds like an oxymoron. It reminds one of some underground satire site on the net. Don't the feminists hate porn? Women don't buy porn anyway. Why would they get off on Feminist Porn? How can there be such a thing as Feminist Porn?

I should probably state that I am a feminist. Not the reconfigured Camille Paglia quasi-feminist either. I am a Ms. Magazine loving, goddess theory-believing feminist. I think that patriarchal society has oppressed women ever since some time between the end of the Paleolithic era and the beginning of the Neolithic Revolution. I believed in the ERA and I demand full control over my body. I think women have come a long way in the last hundred years but we have a long way to go before we're equal to men all over the world.

I am a feminist. I am a feminist and I like porn. The non-sexual anti-carnal feminist portrayed so eloquently by radio talk show hosts is a myth. Women are highly sexual beings and feminism teaches this.

Whole religions revolved around the vagina back in the day. The architects of male-based cultures/religions worked diligently to demonize the regenerative, libidinous power of the female.

Women evolved from the blessed chosen ones to the instigators of original of sin. The vagina became the mouth of hell and women were told their erotic tendencies were unnatural and wrong. As soon as men figured out they played a part in the birth process (about ten thousand years ago) they regarded women as chattel and not until the discovery of the female reproductive system did we gain any real value as human beings.

One of the main tools used to oppress women was the repression and submission of control over our carnality. Sex was used as a mechanism to hinder women but that didn't mean women hated sex. Women like sex. They better because they are the ones who have to carry the babies.

Enough about feminism. What is Feminist Porn you ask? In simple terms, it's porn made by feminists. In detailed terms, it's pretty much up to your imagination. I can tell you what it's not. Feminist Porn is not lesbian porn. Feminist Porn isn't about images of subservient men being intimately humiliated. Feminist Porn isn't frilly, girly stuff starring Fabio and the homely peasant maid. Feminist porn is known by another term, Sex Positive. Feminist Porn is sex positive porn. Feminist Porn is that in which the woman is an informed participant and a willing player.

Defining Feminist Porn is tricky. Some online smut peddlers look at the sites of Annie Sprinkle or Susie Bright and they just don't understand the pictures. Is Annie Sprinkle into bondage or food? Why is Susie Bright so plain? What category does this stuff fit into? Is it art? Is it erotica? What kind of sponsors can I sell with this? My answer is one word, Portal.

I'll say it three times Portal. Portal. Portal. I don't care what kind of portal you build. It can be an E-Zine; a community page or a swinger's directory, as long as you build a portal, you will attract the ladies. Women Internet surfers have shown in study after study to be multi-taskers. While men seem to pretty much stick with the top holy trinity of Stocks, Sports and Sex in their cyber searchings, women shop, research, communicate and use the net more fruitfully.

Women like a site where they can perform more than one function. They want to entertain themselves with articles and imagery; they want the good prices on needed items and they want to see if they share interest with others. If you want to appeal to the female audience with your adult products, you have to go where the female surfers go. If you want to appeal to feminist porn surfers, you have to see the sites already in place for them. Some of these sites are:

    Bust
    (http://www.bust.com)
As you can see by the retro cheesecake on the site this isn't the Ladies Home Journal. With sex positive articles and a strong member's community, this e-zine has a large female audience.

    Nerve
    (http://www.nerve.com)
Not only does this site have great erotic photography and intensive writings from today's sexual pioneers, it also features personal stories, images and contact personals.

    Dr. Susan Block
    (http://www.drsusanblock.com)
A Ph.D. from Yale and an unflinching reverence for sex has made this woman the hit of talk shows and men's magazines. Hers is one of the few feminist porn sites that charges a fee for membership access.

Mind you, these are sites that are still mired in the ways of print advertising. They haven't yet worked out how to make money selling adult products and services but if you want to know where the feminist porn is, they are a great start.

Now let's apply the feminist porn mindset, the portal factor and adult sponsors to an online business model. One of the hottest niches today is the MILF niche. M(others) I('d) L(ike) to F(uck) is a reference made popular in the movie American Pie. You could start an online MILF community of "sexually dissatisfied housewives" who are looking for men to fulfill their fantasies. Give them articles and erotica about women breaking out of their stereotypes. Sell them dildos through your online (sponsor-based) store. Sell them erotic books. Sell them memberships to personal search databases. Give them chat rooms and home pages. Ask them to submit their writings. Devise a links category to paysites you are affiliated with.

With females, you can spread yourself around sponsor-wise. Men are more selective about the kind of smut they want. Women like to browse and will buy more physical merchandise. Your MILF site can appeal to the feminist by showing empowered women who choose to be carnally adventurous. Don't post text like "slut" or "whore" as you might on an amateur housewives gallery. Feminists who like porn are not ashamed, guilty or afraid.

Building a portal site that interests women who like sex and refuse to feel disgraced about it will bring you a new market of buyers from an audience so unlikely, you thought it was a gag. Feminist Porn is real and it's filled with humor, myriad possibility and it's where the women are.
