** Continued From: Tools of the Trade! - Part #2
This is the third and final installment in our three-part series, celebrating a most amazing thread made on Cozy Campus. In that thread, we asked our members to post their favorite webmaster tools. That thread was so successful that not only did it stay pinned to the top of our Newbie forum for two years, it inspired us to create a whole new Cozy Help Guide.
That thread was titled TOOLS OF THE TRADE.
In part one, we explained the extraordinary generosity of our Cozy Froggers. In part two, we highlighted some of our favorite posts from that thread. In this part, we continue the praise.
While everyone on Cozy Campus is helpful to curious beginner webmasters, some froggers go above and beyond when it comes to being neighborly. There are a couple of Campus members that posted in the TOOLS thread of whom we're especially proud. Those members are timelord and upallnite.
Here's a couple of posts made by timelord in the TOOLS thread:
"A very useful Search Engine Tool - http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion
I used this to prioritize my Keywords. It also shows combined keyword rankings. It enables you to check your Meta tags/titles etc actually using words that people search with.
It second to Google, but a strong indicator of how people think and how many look for certain keywords.
It works. My whole site was structured by it. It dictated tags & now I have numerous Top 10 SE rankings including quite a few 1st, 2nd, 3rd places etc."
And:
"If you download a lot of software, chances are that some of your software came with covert hidden surprises.
Often spyware comes bundled with freeware & shareware.
These nasty little buggers can range from simply throwing up adverts in your face to tracking your every surfing habit & sending the results over your Internet connection.
Fortunately Lavasoft offer a free program called Add-aware:

It's a great little program that is sure to shock you when you see what it finds on your machine. Update it every now and then and run it again from time to time."
Then there's the wisdom of master frogger and all-around nice guy
upallnite:
"This isn't really a tool, but a tip.
Turning the tables on hotlinkers.
Whenever you get someone pulling some gif's or images you don't want them to, instead of asking them to stop or reporting them; this only works if it's only on a few of your pages mainly.
Open your pages and change the code and rename the gif. Then make an ad for your site (the same size works best) something like: "Visit www.yourdomain.com!"
Name it as the old gif was and load it in the same place. You now have some free ads on their pages! No one can click to your site but the whole URL is in there to see!"
And:
As we've so clearly illustrated, there are some damned good members on Cozy Campus. As well, the TOOLS thread is one hell of a source of info. While we are building a Cozy Help Guide based on this thread, if you want to see this great bit of goodness for yourself, go here:
