To Blog or Not to Blog?
    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | JUN.15.2005

When I told my boss (C-Pimp) my idea for this story, he said “Okay but after this, NO MORE BLOG ARTICLES!

I would imagine you’re a little sick of the whole blog thing by now as well. I suppose by this point, you either get it or you don’t. If you get it, you’re already messing with blogs. If you don’t get it, you’re not. Simple as that.

I’m not trying to insult anyone here. I’m just saying that love em, hate em or indifferent, blogs are hot, happening and full of marketing possibility.

If you’re still on the fence concerning the subject of weblogs, I understand your objections:

    1. Blogs require more care than the build-it, submit-it and forget-it sites normal to the adult webmaster.

    2. Blogs aren’t really porn sites.

    3. There’s no proof anyone is making any money with blogging.

Let me address each objection:

Blogs require more care than the build-it, submit-it and forget-it sites normal to the adult webmaster.

It’s true. In the blogging realm, you have to be vigilant with your blog if you want to rise to the top of the list. This means adding a new entry every single day, more if possible. In addition, your blog needs to contain content that’s worth the look. You can throw a banner farm on a blog and call it a blog but you’ll never get far with such a feeble attempt. You absolutely have to nurture and feed your blog or it will die in obscurity.

"Dictionary publisher, Merriam-Webster, stated that the word "blog" was their pick for the number one most popular word of 2004"
Fortunately, the benefits of a healthy blog are vast. For one, the more you update your blog, the better your search engine rankings. The more you update, the bigger the chances that other bloggers will find you and link to you, and they do! The more you update, the more fans you’ll generate. If you have something worthy to blog about, fans will find you.

Post often. Submit your blog to as many blog-specific search engines and ranking communities as you can. Look in your log files and find out who has you listed on their blog page. Return the favor and email the webmaster to let them know you’ve reciprocated the link. Join in the discussion/comment postings on other blogs. Make yourself known to the blogging community. Always add your blog URL to your comment profile.

Blogs aren’t really porn sites.

And that’s the beauty of blogs! Blogs are primarily literary content and literary content has a higher redeeming social value than does image-based smut. You can get a blog even an adult one- listed on many more link sites and search engines than you can a regular old dirty picture page.

Once you have the surfers inside your blog, you can send them anywhere you like with ads and text links. The weblog is a perfect traffic pump. You draw them in with your brilliant essays then you send them off to sponsor sites or pop-up happy places. A blog isn’t really a porn site and that’s what’s so nice about them!

There’s no proof anyone is making any money with blogging.

I beg to differ. If you’re in doubt as to whether or not there’s proof that blogging is financially lucrative, I advise you to visit a site called Blogads.com.

When you get there, click on the link that says: Choose Blogs

Peruse through the ad rates that each site listed requires. The top blog, the DailyKos is getting $2500.00 per week for a premium ad spot. Whizbang is asking for $300.00 a week. The conservative blog, Little Green Footballs wants advertisers to pay $400.00 a week.

I’ve been monitoring the ad rates for the sites listed on Blogads. If these folks weren’t getting the prices they were asking for, their rates would go down. The rates have only gone up.

I’ve also visited most of the sites that sell advertising through Blogads. While quite a bit of the spaces are filled with ads for smaller businesses, there have been some heavy hitters that have paid for spots. I’ve seen network and cable television advertising. I’ve seen ads for theatrical-release movies as well as upcoming CD releases. I’ve even seen automobile ads on blogs!

Maybe the blog fad will pass. Maybe it will burst like a dot com bubble. Regardless, at the moment a blog is the “it” thing to have on the web. Dictionary publisher, Merriam-Webster, stated that the word “blog” was their pick for the number one most popular word of 2004. Search engines like Google and Yahoo will give you return results in the millions for the keyword blog.

Okay. That’s it. I’m done. I’ve tried my best to sell you on the potential of blogging. I’ve addressed common concerns the adult webmaster might have regarding the use of blogs. I’ve stated my love for the blog possibly more than I should. So, I leave you to make the choice on your own.
