"A Review Site is not a build-it-and-forget it kind of page. You're undoubtedly going to create your Review Site as a marketing venue but you'll be selling yourself as well as your sponsors." |
Adult webmasters see a lot of porn. Many of us have seen so much that we've become anesthetized to the simple thrill (a surfer experiences) with one dirty picture. We forget that there are millions of people who can't talk openly about their porn tastes with family or friends. We've lost touch with those that suffer a socialized shame because they enjoy sexual entertainment. I think adult webmasters don't understand that the act of viewing and buying porn on the Internet isn't all that easy.
Each of us has a unique talent. Some are marketing gurus. Others can design pages that sell. A few start trends or simplify complicated issues. Still more are just very good at working like maniacs. We ponder over questions like 'What niche sells best?' or 'Which sponsor coverts best?'. We ruminate about how to make our ads pop and our sites sticky . We've transmogrified our customers into genitalia with wallets. We overlook that a growing number of them do take the time to investigate our sites and sponsors before they pay.
Has it ever occurred to you that your site visitors don't believe you when you tell them in size ten font: The Best Gangbangs on the Internet! Do you really think your surfers are so stupid, they'll trust your word without asking someone else first? Have you been on the web lately? Ever hear of message boards? Have you seen these pages called Review Sites? Would you like to build one?
You are free to make any kind of page you want. A Review site can be anything you want. Perhaps it would save time if I told you what a Review Site is NOT!
If all you do is caption some sponsor banners with text like: This Site Rocks! Then you're not technically reviewing those sites. If you serve up a page analyzing just one product over and over, then your visitors won't think much of your reviewing skills. A Review Site is not a build-it-and-forget it kind of page. You're undoubtedly going to create your Review Site as a marketing venue but you'll be selling yourself as well as your sponsors. Your regulars will come to you because they respect your opinion and like your perspective. A Review Site is not some lame excuse to throw a bunch of ads and affiliate links on a domain.
Remember that surfers come to your Review Site with an assumed sense of trust. You don't tell a surfer 'This is a cool page' and then direct them to a URL, loaded with popups and auto-downloading apps. You don't flame or pimp a paysite without ever having seen the member's area.
A Review Site shouldn't be in the business of bait and switch. Maybe you intend to create a permanent, static page that critiques the classic porn movies of all time. Maybe you plan to make your money by selling DVDs of those movies via some sponsor program. Who will the surfer prefer? A reviewer that dedicates one crappy paragraph of text to each movie? If you plan to be a reviewer then be one. See each film. Write real reviews. Don't lie. Don't mislead.
You had a sponsor that screwed you. So you decide that every time you get a chance to write about their products you're going to slam them. Could be your prejudice is less intentional. Maybe you just don't like a type of sex act or niche. The point is you must ignore preconceptions and grudges because reviewers review. There's a difference between judging and reviewing. Reviewers give opinions but they also synopsize the story or describe the merchandise. Reviewers try to be fair by pointing out elements they relish as well as those they don't. Your Review Site shouldn't be your own little temple of hate. Not only is it unprofessional, eventually your visitors will stop visiting.
If you're going to build a Review Site then do it right. Be it blog or e-zine or message board, the magic and money come from your dedication not your layout. Review whatever you want. Write about dildos. Cross-examine and compare paysites or penis pills. Let users become reviewers by enabling comments or hosting a chat. Get a little faux and create a Review Site that covers just the paysites of one of those mega-sponsors. Write opinions on all the products you carry in your sponsor-hosted online store. Write opinions of the products you carry in your real-life store. Review DVDs. Review non-adult software while selling porn-related software on your sidebar. What you choose to Review isn't nearly as important as is your ability to give a critique worthy of bookmarking.
If you're tired of selling smut or just aren't finding your groove, maybe you could try building a Review Site. People appreciate it when you help them form a learned opinion. The porn customer that buys with confidence is less likely to chargeback or back out at the JOIN page. The surfer that reads reviews is a cool customer and won't regret a transaction made through clear thinking. Review Sites are popular in both the adult and non-adult realms of cyberspace. Take advantage of horny surfers by getting them to think instead of luring them into rash decisions. Build a Review Site today!
