In part one of this two-part article, I was right in the middle of explaining it all to you about adult webmaster message boards. Page restraints forced me to lengthen this piece because I’m just not done. In part one I told you how quirky we Internet pornographers are. I told you we do things a little different than non-adult online hangouts. Our standard IM software is that old chestnut, ICQ. Our online communities have been around since the mid-nineties. Despite the hubbub the kids make about MySpace and the blogs, adult webmasters prefer to congregate on threaded message boards.

Then I gave you some tips about how to post at adult webmaster message boards. I gave you some insight into the politics of these Internet communities primarily in terms of newbie politics. I was just about to tell you that besides being skeptical, unsympathetic people with very little time for posers, real adult webmasters don’t come to an industry message board for the free porn. Porn is the product. Sure, we talk about it but we usually talk about it from the perspective of professionals. Also, we don’t want to buy your fake brand-name phones or your black market prescription drugs.

Some day, if you spend enough time asking questions and paying attention to what’s posted on industry boards, a light will click. A switch will be turned on. Some webmaster will post something, some missing tidbit of information that completes the puzzle for you.
If you join in the community, you will merit more and more trust and attention from your fellow board members. Maybe some day, someone will take the time to help you set up that trade script or feed you pointers on a gallery. A sponsor might finally announce a new program involving a niche or site format that fits your abilities to a tee. A hidden friend might introduce and endear with a bit of dirt on a host or content provider ala Private Message.
The newest public expose on a scamming paysite or designer will show you that cheaters never last long in online porn. If you want to read all the hysteria, disinformation and truth that revolves around new obscenity legislation, adult webmaster message boards are the place for you.
I’ve worked in show business. I’ve worked in the music business. I’ve worked in bars. I’ve worked for corporations and I’ve worked for Mom and Pop. I know there’s a touch of prostitution and pimping and downright crime in every job. Nevertheless, Internet porn is the most honest job I’ve ever had. It’s a business with no glass ceilings, prejudice or social class. You’re a freak. So what? Can you make a web page? Can you listen to advice? Can you walk the steps you have to walk on order to get anywhere? Are you in this to make money? Then stop lurking and join up.
There are roughly a bazillion adult webmaster message boards. Each board has its own ambience, flavor and long-timers. Some boards talk about sports a lot. Some spend a good bit of time discussing politics. Some boards are a bit left wing. Some are tad right wing. Some are dedicated to a niche or site type. There are boards for gay webmasters. There are boards run by women. There are boards for any language. Some boards move along at a snail’s pace. Other boards move so fast, it’s impossible to read all the threads.
