Here we are. The first decade of the new Millenium is over. While the predictions of the Y2K fear-brigade never came to pass, it would be a lie to claim that our industry is entering 2010 on a high note. This last year kicked our ass. We’ve got some serious restructuring to do if we want to keep our profession within our control. Every new year brings new opportunities. We are clever and resourceful people and there’s no reason we can’t figure out a way to rebuild what’s broken and re-enforce what makes us strong.

I realize that resolutions are a January cliché but resolution is just another word for plan. Do you have a plan for 2010? Or are you going repeat the moves you’ve made for the last decade? Is this the year you decide to break through the forces that block your progress? Do you have an idea that you’ve been mulling around? Are you happy maintaining the level you’re on or would you like to move up? Whatever your goals, those goals are better achieved when you map the steps to attainment. How about this year, you decide to stop allowing fate to dictate the balance of your bank account? How about you make this year, the year you took a stand and made a plan?
Maybe it’s time you finally opened a paysite. Perhaps you’ve come to realize that you have acquired enough experience as an affiliate webmaster/site builder/gallery maker/traffic guru/content buyer/hosting customer. You’ve been at this for a long time and you’ve sold so many memberships that the reality of the situation hits you like a brick: You know how to run a paysite!
Then again, maybe you’re still at the low end of this business. Maybe you’ve made money selling as an affiliate but you’re not making enough. You know that you can do it but as of yet, you can’t quit your day job. Could this be the year that you lay out a path to a self-sustaining income from adult? You’re not going to allow yourself to experience another year of spotty payouts and frustration. This time, you’re aiming for the win.

Whatever your desire, the point is you have a desire. You have a dream for an end-result. Why not quit winging it and start making it happen? Why not sit down and write up a strategy to fulfill your dream? If you fail, you fail. If you don’t try you fail anyway. If do you try, you just might succeed.
Say you’re that webmaster who has made a bit of money from gallery submitting or free site building. You want to make more money. Set a monetary goal. Pick a figure and aim for it. You want to make $blank per month. Then set about to determine how you’re going to make that goal a reality. More work? Different sponsors? A new site? Trade traffic? All of the above? Weed out what’s not working and concentrate on what does. No more infrequent effort. No more meandering from niche to niche. No more wasting time. You choose a goal. You do the work. You learn from mistakes. You keep at it until you meet your objective.
If your new goal is to open a paysite then your plan is bigger and the trail to your treasure entails expenses, serious design and a clear concept of the type of content you’re going to sell. You’ll need a biller. You’ll need a good host and secure applications. You’ll need to determine of you’re going to implement a webmaster affiliate program or if you’d rather initially, sell memberships on your own. You’ll have to get traffic as well as a buttload of content. You’ll be requiring the services of a lawyer and an accountant. The end-goal for the year may be to simply to get your paysite up and running.
2010 A new year and a new chance to turn it all around. It doesn’t matter that the decade ended with a whimper. The past is gone. The future is all there is and that future is in your hands. You have the power to make this year better. All you need is an objective and a map to guide you there. Make this year your best year. Make a plan and follow it and don’t give up until you’ve realized your dream.
