I started blogging at the end of 2003. Before I knew the whys and hows of blogging, I realized one thing. My blog was getting SE traffic like no other site I had created before.
Search Engines love blogs and there are actual, creditable reasons why search engines love them:
TEXT / KEYWORDS / TAGS / CATEGORIES
| "After six years, I know why blogs software is better when it comes to SEs. It still takes effort and cleverness to earn money selling porn via blog but blogging makes getting your name out there a hell of a lot easier." |
Blogs are text-based. Oh, sure, you can fill your blog with image after image but SEs only index image names. SE bots look for text. SE bots look for hyperlinked tags. SE spider for keywords and blogs are chock full of keywords, especially if you take the time to pepper your posts with relative keywords, tag all your entries and categorize them as well.
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and RSS does exactly what it implies. Blog software automatically creates an RSS page and pings RSS feeds with that RSS page. Before the web came along, a ping was a sound. In old-school net lingo, when an IP got verified by a server, it was called a Ping. Now that Web 2.0 is here, pinging means that your blog is telling an RSS feed that it's been updated and your RSS/XML page is the message bearer. When RSS feeds pick up your latest ping, they index it and distribute it to their feed subscribers.
The simple trick to blog popularity is to post and post often. Write as many new entries per day as you can. If you can't handle multiple daily entries at least post once and day and make it a good post. As explained above, every time you post, your blog software creates and RSS page that pigs the RSS feeds and the syndication cycle continues.

Search Engines love links, especially when others link to you. The best way to get others to link to you is to link to others. Add relative blogs to your blog roll. Always make sure that when you cite something from another blog, link to that blog within your entry. If you're citing a specific post, make sure your hyperlink goes to the specific entry as opposed to the main URL of the blog. Blog software automates just about everything including tracking which permalinks get picked up by other blogs. When you link to someone else's blog entry, they will know it and quite often will look kindly upon you by throwing a little traffic your way via blogroll or post mention. When other blogs cite you, return the favor. After a while there will be outbound links aplenty and the SE engines will find you and raise your blog to the front page results.
Blog software automatically archives all your entries by month. This makes it super easy for SEs to spider your site. Blog software also automatically creates a static page of each entry. The address of those static pages are called Permalinks. With blog software you can choose to (automatically) give each Permalink a keyword-rich URL. Obviously, Search Engines love keywords in page titles.
When I saw my blog ascending the Search Engine ladder I sensed I was playing on a better field than when I was pimping for hits with thumbnail galleries and free sites.
After six years, I know why blogs software is better when it comes to SEs. It still takes effort and cleverness to earn money selling porn via blog but blogging makes getting your name out there a hell of a lot easier. Then again, many webmasters find that selling smut with a blog is harder than doing it with a gallery or free site.
While I'm am an admitted blog fan, I would never try to convince you that blogging is the best way. It is simply another way. You have to make your own decisions. If you make good money building and submitting galleries, then keep doing it. If you have success with submitting freesites to Top Lists and Directories, then don't stop. However, if you've tried galleries and freesites and come up short, give blogging a try. If you just want to expand your chances of getting traffic and selling subscriptions, start a blog. If you want organize and automate your site then blog software is some of the simplest CMS (Content Management Software) out there.
Search engines love blogs. Blogs are easy to implement and update. Blogs are Win/Win!
